Sontag

Sontag started out in 2003 as a comic based loosely on Beowulf and starring a Dark Elf ronin named Sontag, fleeing his past. At the time, I drew two comics, Shadow Ganger, and Strange Fruit, started a third and before long had planned 20-odd chapters in a tale of epic proportions.

When I created Lair of the Twisted Kitten, Sontag was intended as it's first main comic, and started redrawing Shadow Ganger. But when I started doing concept images for other creators, drew Eleggua and then moved to Melbourne, it remained incomplete.

Set in our own world in the 6th century AD, Sontag's characters are an eclectic mix of elves, gods and humans squabbling and seeking meaning in a world shaken by the fall of rhe Roman Empire and the emergence of Christianity. I got very attached to them, and you can see many characters who don't appear yet in any comic I've drawn in the Sontag Gallery.

In early 2004, I also made a Sontag card game, which I'll try to put online when I have the time.
